“World Cup” My Ass…
How can they really call it the “world” cup when the most powerful nation in the world doesn’t actively dominate? Now, the World Series, that is certainly more reflective of the honest state of the world.
Soccer (they even stole the name “football” from us, can you believe it) doesn’t even suit the attitude of the most potent sports and entertainment nation in the world ™. Just the other day, a US friend of mine asked why they didn’t just get rid of that pesky offsides rule, and get the score rate up.
Why indeed? But I have an even more thorough solution to make International “Football” worthy of American interest:
GET RID OF THE OFFSIDES RULE, AND ALLOW THE GOALIE TO BEAT THE CRAP OUT OF ANYONE HE CAN CATCH!
Other players can defend themselves against potential goalie assault, but they can’t actively attack the goalie, or, as I like to call him, THE GOALINATOR.
This gives us more shots on goal coupled with more violence. Just what the American viewer wants, and thus, just what everyone SHOULD want.
